---President Wang introduces the idea of building

Chinese private business park

On August 8, 2006, All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce hold a seminar on Pakistan cooperation project at State Guest Hotel. Leaders from the National Development and Reform Commission, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Commerce, United Front Work Department, All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce, State Association of Coal Industry, as well as representative of Chinese entrepreneurs of private and state-owned enterprises who intends to invest in Pakistan attended the conference. Hu Deping, the 1st vice chairman of All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce chaired the conference. Wang Tianyi, president of CIIC, attended the conference and introduced the idea of establishing special economic zone (Chinese private business park) in Pakistan and got the emphasis of the attending leaders.

On February 20, 2006, Pakistanian president Pervez Musharraf made a state visit in China with the entrepreneur delegation led by Hu Deping and Xie Boyang, 1st vice chairman and vice chairman of All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce at Diaoyutai State Guesthouse. Both sides exchanged views on enhancing the trade and economic cooperation between private business of China and Pakistan. President Musharraf invites Chinese enterprises to invest in Pakistan. Both sides have many cooperation opportunities in infrastructure, mineral resources development, textile, agricultural and food processing industries. Pakistanian people welcome such co-operations and the Pakistanian government will give all-round support.

The seminar is a concrete step of implementing the cooperation intent of both sides. Four key projects are discussion on the conference, namely, building Chinese business center in the capital of Pakistan; building Chinese private business park; 10 million tons oil refinery project and coal resources development project.

President Wang introduced the idea of building special economic zone, including the political and economic background of establishing special economic zone; CIIC's experiences in developing Beijing International Information Industry Base; investment strategy for Pakistan project under state guidance; risk assessment for investment in Pakistan. President Wang proposed that special economic zone shall be adjacent to the traffic hinge, shall have access to such resources as water and electricity and a land area of 100 sq. km to 1000 sq. km (it can be developed by phases). The special zone shall be established in Karachi or Gwadar, West Pakistan. The special zone will mainly deal with export processing industry and light industry, with high-tech industry also taken into account.

The attending leaders warmly discussed the idea of building of Chinese private business park in Pakistan and attached great importance. All of them expressed that assistance and support shall be granted from all sides.
